10 Loving Ways to Spice Up Your Boring Life

10 Loving Ways to Spice Up Your Boring Life

The only thing that will make you happy is being happy with who you are, and not who people think you are. – Goldie Hawn (more happy quotes)

There comes a time in our lives when we feel like we are unable to find meaning in the things that we do every day. These are the seasons that we tend to feel sick and tired of our normal routines and become envious of our friends who seem to be living the good life. However, we need not be surprised if we are feeling such emotions, because the truth is, we were not designed to live boring lives. We were fearfully and wonderfully made, and each of us exist on this planet for a unique purpose. Every time you feel unsatisfied and unfulfilled, don’t feel bad, but consider your circumstance to be an opportunity for you to spice up your life. While there are numerous ways you can make your life less boring, here are ten you can start with today.

Unleash the Child Within You

Just because you’re already thirty, forty, or fifty years old already doesn’t mean you can’t do any of the stuff you did as a seven-year old kid. There’s a saying that people don’t stop playing because they grow old, but that they grow old because they stop playing. Ask the little child in you what he or she wants to do right now. Is it painting? Playing dress up? Catching butterflies? How about playing that old flute you haven’t touched for years? Take time to play today and get rid of the dullness in your life.

Spend Time with Little Children

Speaking of being a little child once again, another way you can unleash the child within you is by spending time with kids. If you have children, find time today to bond with them and do nothing else. The best thing about little children is they seem to not have any worries in life. They have faith that their needs will be provided for. They are never insecure and believe that there will be someone who will keep them safe at all times. Spend some time playing with kids and perhaps you might learn a thing or two from them on how to live in the moment and simply enjoy life.

Fill Out a Ream of Thank You Cards

Doing random acts of kindness is a great way to spice up a boring life. When you’re feeling depressed, write and encouraging note and give it to someone whom you know is also going through depression. When you’re feeling like there’s nothing in life you could feel grateful for, write a thank you card and give it to the saleslady at the grocery store, thanking her for service. Sometimes, all we need to feel good is to make others feel good as well.

Learn a New Hobby

Sign up for something you have always wanted to do, but couldn’t find time for. Whether it’s dancing, playing an instrument, or even boxing, it would surely slash even just a bit from the boringness in your life. Other hobbies you can try include cooking, knitting, painting, and even pole dancing!

Visit an Elderly Person

Gaining wisdom is a great way to add more excitement to your life, and what better place to find it than a home for elderly people. Gray hair is a sign of wisdom  and is the splendor of old men. Interview elderly people including your own grandparents and you will be surprised at the crazy experiences they have also had during their youth.

Commit to Exercising and Staying Fit

There’s not faster way to lift up the mood than exercise. Physical activities such as running or even walking promote the release of endorphins, also known as “feel good” chemicals. If you feel bored most of the time, perhaps it’s time to commit to exercising. Not only does exercise make you feel good by boosting your mood, but it also helps you feel good by making you looking good.

Read a New Book

Reading a book has numerous benefits, and one of them is to increase your ability to dream big. Reading biographies of great men, in particular, can really inspire you to follow in their footsteps or create your own path. Reading the stories of men and women who lived selfless lives inspire you to do the same.

Find Opportunities for Your Character to be Built

Sometimes, the reason that we feel bored about our lives is that we are not seeing ourselves growing as individuals. If you feel you have been stagnant for too long, perhaps it’s time to deliberately find opportunities to build your character. A good opportunity would be volunteering to be part of an outreach group. Spending time with less fortunate people and people who are difficult to love will not only open your eyes to the realities of the world, but will also tenderize your heart and teach you to have more patience and compassion.

Plan a Weekend Trip

Not only does planning give you something to look forward to, but the opportunity to travel will also allow you to discover yourself more. The enjoyment you get from the vacation is just a bonus.

Discover Your Life Purpose

Speaking of traveling and discovering yourself, a weekend trip would be a perfect time for you to reflect and discover your life purpose. One of the main reasons we get bored and have feelings of dissatisfaction and unfulfillment is that we haven’t discovered our calling in life yet. Find time to evaluate your life and discover your true calling. It’s not that hard, really. All you need to do is to enumerate your strengths and the things that you love to do. In my case, for instance, it was only later in my life that I discovered I had a passion and gift for teaching. The good news is that it is never too late to discover the reason you were placed in this planet.
